About
My aim of research is to better understand cortical reorganisation after auditory deprivation and after restored auditory input following cochlear implantation. How does the auditory system adapt to the new sensory input provided by the cochlear implant? What are the reasons for the remarkable variance across cochlear-implant users in terms of speech and music perception skills? Can compensatory plastic changes during the period of auditory deprivation impede the rehabilitation of hearing after cochlear implantation? In order to investigate these research questions, we use fMRI and EEG to assess plastic changes in the auditory cortex of deaf individuals and cochlear-implant users.
